When Experience Matters

Why Is It Important to Hire an Experienced Trial Attorney?

Do you need an experienced criminal defense or personal injury attorney to represent you? Retain an attorney who is willing and prepared to take your case to trial. I have extensive trial experience. I aggressively advocate for the rights of my clients and approach every case by developing a strategy designed to achieve a favorable jury verdict.

Approach to Case Preparation

I do not wait to start preparing for trial after the case fails to settle. I prepare for trial as soon as I take the case. I believe that the case foundation needs to be developed very early in the process to be successful.

No case is won without laying the proper foundation, which involves:

  • Extensive review of the evidence
  • Thorough investigation of the facts and witnesses involved in the case
  • An aggressive discovery and pretrial motion strategy

Focused on Client Needs

I have 18 years of experience and I am constantly implementing new strategies and tactics that I have learned from many years of litigating cases. My "fight first" method involves vigorous case preparation and analysis. My firm accepts a limited number of cases so as to totally focus attention on my clients' legal matters.

I strive to be loyal to my clients and work to create relationships with each person I represent. When you hire me as your lawyer, I take that very personally and feel a deep responsibility to protect your rights and advocate on your behalf. I run a low-volume practice because I value the relationships with my clients.

When taking on a case, I am passionate about assisting my client with a unique approach and goal in mind. I am a warrior who fights relentlessly for my clients. I want to do the best possible job on each case and I consistently work toward achieving results that satisfy my clients.

About Attorney Michael R. Hughes

In 2006, I attended Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College. This is an intense one-month program that focuses on psychodrama and trial skills at Gerry Spence's ranch outside of Dubois, Wyoming. It is the premier training program for trial lawyers who only represent the injured and the accused. America's greatest and most dedicated trial lawyers have trained at the college over the last 20 years.

In addition to constantly honing my skills as a trial lawyer, I am also very street smart and intuitive. When I take on a case, I use an aggressive approach and work relentlessly to protect my clients' rights and interests. Also, I am straightforward and direct with my clients — no BS, no smoke blown up your backside and no complicated "attorney speak."

As a former adjunct professor of criminal law and procedure, I can break down legal issues in an easy-to-understand way. I also love to share stories and have become an animated storyteller. My latest adventure into the literary world is a fictional trilogy about the dark side of the United States drug policy over the last 30 years.
